Roundtable on antiretroviral therapy

On August 14, 2015 in Almaty, in the "Holiday Inn" hotel there was held a roundtable on ART issues  "Stop HIV - increase the number of people on ART" with participation of Vinay Saldanha - Regional Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Today ART has a key role in reduction of the new cases of HIV infection. At the country level, there are all the prerequisites for people living with HIV antiretroviral therapy on a large scale, reducing the price of ART drugs will increase the number of patients without an increase in funding from the state. A significant reduction in the price of ART drugs is made possible by using the mechanism of UN procurement, which is reflected in the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan №1729, on 30.10.2009

Among participants of the roundtable there were upper management and staff of the RAC, USAID / PEPFAR, UNAIDS and Kazakhstan Association of PLHIV. Participants discussed the new global strategic directions of the international organizations to improve prevention programs. The strategy urges the country to make a priority the provision of essential services for the prevention and treatment of people at greatest risk of infection, such an approach would greatly reduce the number of new HIV infections and mortality caused by AIDS.
