"I remember! I see! I act! " in Almaty

A commemorative event was held on May 15 in the Arbat in honor of the International Day of Remembrance of People Who Died of AIDS.

In the program: a concert, a demonstration of the KVILT of memory, a performance of the actors of the theater "Art and Shock" "Destiny", the presentation of a virtual game about the prevention of HIV infection "Taza zholtanda", flash mob, the launch of white balls in the form of red tape - a symbol of the fight against AIDS. The participants in the call to stop stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV (PLHIV) were the deputy of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Irina Smirnova. During the Promotion, a mobile laboratory of the Almaty AIDS Center worked, where anyone could freely pass an HIV test anonymously and confidentially and receive psycho-social counseling. More than 50 people wanted to know their HIV status. The event ended with the destruction of the symbolic wall-stigma towards PLHIV.

"Because of action," says Nurali Amanzholov, president of the Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV and the Central Asian Association of PLWH, "we want to preserve the memory of whose lives the epidemic has taken, draw the attention of the public and especially young people to the problem of stigma and discrimination against PLHIV, to give an opportunity to think about the fact that this problem can affect everyone. Therefore, people should take responsibility for their own health and that of their loved ones. Stopping the epidemic and reversing it can be a complex of measures: prevention, ensuring access to treatment for all who need it, fighting stigma, of course, actively drawing public attention to the problem of HIV infection.

Organizers: Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV, Central Asian Association of PLWH, State Fund for the Development of Youth Policy in Almaty, USAID Flagman Project on HIV in Central Asia (PSI), Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Republican AIDS Center, AIDS Center in Almaty, PF "Trust Plus", Red Crescent Society in RK, Project "The Future is My Choice" of the Bilim-Central Asia Education Center.
