Training "Legal aspects of PLHIV" in Shymkent

The training "Legal Aspects of PLHIV" took place on May 21, 2016 in Shymkent, within the framework of the "Leader of People Living with HIV" project for a community of people living with HIV.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the legal aspects of PLHIV and to teach them how to protect their rights and opportunities in various spheres of society.

The trainers were B. Turgunbaev, L. Kurbatova, I. Ozhanova, who conducted the training in two languages: Kazakh and Russian.

During the event the participants got acquainted with the concepts of "constitutional and civil rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan", "stigma", "self-stigmatization" and "discrimination", discussed international mechanisms for the protection of human rights. Particular interest was the presentation on the violation of the rights and opportunities of women living with HIV with information on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The topic was fixed by the practical work on filling out applications, suits, complaints, as well as brainstorming "Where and how can I apply for violating the rights of PLHIV / people?".
