Training on the protection of the rights of PLHIV in Bishkek

One-day cascade training on protecting the rights of people living with HIV took place in Bishkek on July 4, 2016.

To participate in the cascade training, potential listeners received invitation letters. Representatives of non-governmental organizations, members of communities of people living with HIV (PLHIV) were included in the mailing list. In the course of the cascade training, trainers from Kyrgyzstan who have completed the training on Human Rights ToT have supplemented the knowledge of 30 participants from the Kyrgyz Republic on the legislation in the sphere of protection of the rights of PLHIV.

The relevance of this cascade training is primarily related to the existence of facts of violations of the rights of PLHIV. In Kyrgyzstan, people living with HIV most often face violations of their rights in medical institutions, do not know the algorithm for obtaining social guarantees, their rights and obligations.

Violations of the rights of PLHIV, stigma and discrimination lead to poor health, psychological and family problems.

"Training on the protection of the rights of PLHIV can have a positive impact on strengthening the legal capacity of people living with HIV, AIDS service organizations, to reduce stigma and discrimination, increase the access of PLHIV to treatment and active participation in public life, as well as strengthen their leadership potential, - the head of "Association of the Country Network of People Living with HIV" - Yevgenia Kalinichenko.
