A campaign for young people "I know my HIV status" was held in Almaty

February 15, 2017 in Almaty, at the Kazakh National University named after Al Farabi, the action "I know my HIV status!" Took place.

In the program of the event: performance "Open face", short-show, flash mob, communication with people living with HIV (PLHIV), performances of Kazakh pop stars, optional express testing for HIV infection and other activities aimed at strengthening the motivation for maintaining health and leading a healthy lifestyle.

- The aim of the event is to attract the attention of young people to the issues of taking care of their health and those around them through regular testing and improving skills of a healthy lifestyle. Regular testing for HIV infection gives several important advantages, among which is the opportunity to know your HIV status and take the necessary measures and decisions about your future life based on knowledge of your health status, "says the President of the Central Asian Association of PLHIV and the Kazakhstan Union PLHIV Nurali Amanzholov.

The mobile laboratory of the Center for AIDS Prevention and Control in Almaty city worked throughout the campaign. Anyone could make free rapid HIV testing on conditions of anonymity and confidentiality, get pre-test and post-test counseling of specialists, as well as answers to questions.

The organizers of the action are the Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV, the Central Asian Association of PLHIV, the Republican AIDS Center, UNAIDS, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the USAID Flagman HIV Project in Central Asia, the Center for HIV Almaty University, Al Farabi Kazakh National University (special thanks to the Faculty of Medicine), The Future is My Choice Project, which, in partnership with Chevron, is being implemented by the Bilim-Central Asia Education Center.
