The day of "Zero discrimination" is celebrated on March 1 by the initiative of UNAIDS - the Joint United Nations Program on HIV / AIDS. Discrimination is the biggest obstacle to effective prevention and care for HIV and AIDS. Fear of discrimination prevents people from seeking treatment or openly recognizing their HIV status.

The facts of stigmatization and discrimination against people living with HIV (PLHIV) are very difficult to eradicate. There is no country in the world that can cope with this problem. The Republic of Kazakhstan is taking measures to eliminate the factors influencing the vulnerability to HIV infection and preventing access to medical services for PLHIV. The state guarantees of non-admission, any forms of discrimination due to the nature of the disease are fixed at the legislative level in the Constitution and the People's Health and Healthcare Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The country constantly conducts activities aimed at building tolerance in society towards PLHIV.
